The Two. Black and White. (Duality)

There was nothing. Than there was one thing. This is the first dual, but unofficially. The nothing, zero, is negative, compared to the One Thing. But once the One Thing came from the Nothing, the nothing was something, and so these never split, they are the same. The One Thing, prior to creation, could be thought of as a single point in space. As the Nothing condensed into a Point it left a space, a circumference is made, the space the point sits in, so to say. This creates two things. The Point is the first "positive". But the space is now technically a new thing, and so the second true thing is made. You could think of a circle with a point in the middle.


Black and white are the same, but they differ in degree. Where does light end and dark start? Duality is required for our physical universe. Evil is but the lack of good. All of duality exists to create. The poles of existence are the dual's, reality is the space in between. Without the constant struggle, the backs and forths, reality would not be. Duality is the cause of motion, the lack of motion is oneness. All has a body and a soul. Duality is hard to see, as we only see the dual. But knowing this we can work around it, but that's for another time. All things have an opposite, everything is dual, and all things have both opposites within them. Like the yin yang, there is black in the white and white in the black. All archetypes have dual aspects  because they are above duality, so we must see them in a dual way, we must see the black and white. True knowledge comes from knowing the black and white and seeing the greater source, the greater, less specific thing. Duality is specific, oneness is general.

The following is a Verse from the Tao Te Ching about duality, it is also the second verse, funny huh?

Under heaven all can see beauty as beauty,
only because there is ugliness.
All can know good as good only because there is evil.

Being and non being produce each other.
The difficult is born in the easy.
Long is defined by the short, the high by the low.
before and after go along with each other.

So the sage lives openly, with apparent duality
and paradoxical unity.
The sage can act without effort
and teach without words.
nurturing things without possessing them
he works, but not for rewords;
he competes, but not for results.

When the work is done, it is forgotten,
that is why it last forever.



Most of the Laws of the Kybalion deal with duality.

 THE PRINCIPLE OF POLARITY.

"Everything is Dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled." — The Kybalion.

THE PRINCIPLE OF GENDER.

"Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles Gender; manifests on all planes." — The Kybalion.

THE PRINCIPLE OF CAUSE AND EFFECT.

"Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is but a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law." — The Kybalion.

THE PRINCIPLE OF RHYTHM.

"Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates." — The Kybalion.
